Wendy Wilson
Web master, photographer, advertising and business manager
AERO Australia's editorial content is produced by Wilson Media for the Chevron Publishing Group. Wendy is Stewart's wife and business partner - the one who dots the i's and crosses the t's, a thankless task. She takes photographs (with a Nikon D70s camera) when our better-known photographers aren't around. Her favourite work is designing and updating her many web sites.
In an earlier life Wendy met Ray Berghouse as a motor racing photographer. She was a 'flaggie' at most major motor race meetings at Amaroo Park, Oran Park and Bathurst racing circuits from the early 1970's to 1986. Ray would walk around the circuits to take action shots of the racing, as he still does.
During this period Wendy also had fun racing a sports sedan. It was a Holden LJ Torana fitted with a Holden V8 engine, not an easy car to drive (front heavy). These club and national motor races were lots of fun and Wendy made many good friends.
At this time Wendy was working in the road transport industry as, variously, vehicle clerk, truck salesperson, manager of truck body building businesses and at times truck driver. She loves big trucks and enjoys driving them.
Wendy's father was a WWII Lancaster pilot in England. He flew with 15 Squadron RAF but he was in the RAAF. Wendy's early life was influenced by being around aircraft and RAAF bases, even two overseas stints in Malaya and Hawaii, USA.
Wendy's father offered to teach her to fly when they were living in Canberra in 1969. She has often cursed not accepting this generous offer. Her father was a RAAF trained and experienced flying instructor - who better to learn from!
Wendy has a soft spot for Temora Aviation Museum's Canberra as this was her father's all time favourite aircraft. The other aircraft she loves is the Cirrus SR22. Since being a passenger in one in 2004 her interest in learning to fly has been regenerated. She did start to learn at Bankstown in the late 1980s but gave it away after a mix up with her medical. It all seemed too bureaucratic.
One of the pleasures of assisting Stewart with AERO Australia is meeting so many interesting people who are keen to be involved with the magazine. AERO wouldn't be much without the many wonderful photographs which grace each and every issue.
Wendy is the face of AERO at most air shows around Australia and she enjoys speaking to people about aviation and their experiences.
