Macarthur Job

Writer and aviation safety specialist

Our aviation safety writer, 'Mac' Job is internationally acclaimed as one of the most influential and knowledgeable in the field.

For example, a British television production company retained Mac as a consultant during the filming of the air safety series Black Box which screened on ABC TV in March 1997.

Mac's knowledge extends far beyond mere theory. He is also a highly experienced pilot who learnt on Tiger Moths and subsequently flew in a variety of roles including as a 'flying doctor' pilot in outback South Australia, as a charter and tourist flight operator and as a spotter for the fishing fleet off the south coast of New South Wales.

It was his time as editor of the old Department of Civil Aviation's award-winning Aviation Safety Digest (the beloved 'Crash Comic') that established Mac's reputation as an astute air safety writer and analyst and as a top-notch wordsmith generally.

Mac subsequently worked as deputy editor and then editor of Aircraft magazine before taking on consultancy work and writing his series of aviation books.

He was presented with an Aviation Safety Award for 'aviation safety excellence' at the 1997 Avalon Air Show and AOPA's Adam's Trophy for that year. In 2003, Mac received the Medal of the Order of Australia for 'services to the promotion and advancement of aviation safety'.
