Martin Bass
Writer, pilot and aviation enthusiast
As AERO Australia's rotary wing correspondent, Martin's passion for aviation goes back to his boyhood days, building models, collecting aircraft brochures and reading anything about the subject that he could get his hands on.
Martin's involvement in the industry started at age 24 when he gained his private fixed wing licence. He spent some years flying many fixed wing aircraft types before gaining his commercial helicopter licence, something he had aspired to from the outset. "I loved my fixed wing flying but I always knew I was a frustrated helicopter pilot."
Martin has been writing in the aviation field since 1991 and has a wealth of knowledge about the helicopter industry in Australia and overseas. He has flown a range of helicopter types from the R22 up to the BK 117 and Bell 412.
"Writing about aviation is enjoyable on several fronts. I love the craft of putting a story together, the flying is great and the industry both here and overseas is fascinating from an observer's point of view. It is constantly evolving and to be able to experience it at the cutting edge and then write about it is immensely rewarding."
Martin lives in Sydney and is married with two young children.
